The history of Confecta began in 1990 with the bold vision of Willy and Romana Rudolf. What started as the sole proprietorship “Confecta R. Rudolf” in Bischofszell quickly developed into a company that demonstrated its potential from the very early years. With a strong focus on quality, flexibility, and technical precision, the founders laid the foundation for a success story that continues to this day.
As early as 1992, Confecta achieved its decisive breakthrough: the first major contract – the “wiring of the Locomotive 2000” for ADtranz – brought the young company not only recognition but also strong growth. The workforce increased rapidly, making relocation unavoidable. At the end of the year, Confecta moved into the former OBI cold storage facility in Sitterdorf, which became the company’s central location for many years.
With the transformation into Confecta AG in 1993, the introduction of a modern IT system, and the establishment of a management structure, the company strategically realigned itself. The high quality standards were reinforced in 1995 with the introduction of the ISO 9001 quality management system and officially confirmed in 1997 through certification according to EN ISO 9001.
In parallel, Confecta expanded its portfolio in 1996 to include various trading products, thereby strengthening its solution expertise. This was followed in 1998 by the comprehensive expansion and modernization of office, production, and warehouse facilities in Sitterdorf – another important step in meeting growing requirements.
At the beginning of the 2000s, Confecta gained increasing international significance. From 2000 onwards, the company successfully implemented numerous national and global projects and established additional production sites both domestically and abroad. This expansion provided Confecta with access to new markets and further strengthened its international presence.
A decisive turning point followed in 2006 with the acquisition of the Confecta Group by the NEXANS Automotive & Industrial Wire Harness Business Group. Integration into a globally leading technology group opened up new perspectives, accelerated innovation, and enhanced competitiveness. As part of this strategic realignment, the international production sites were gradually phased out – a deliberate decision in favor of a clear focus on the Swiss site, which remains Confecta’s only production location to this day. Despite being part of a corporate group, Confecta has retained a remarkable degree of independence, flexibility, and customer proximity, which continues to be a key factor in the company’s success.
In 2010, another milestone was achieved with successful UL certification, which was of particular importance for the North American market.
In 2013, Confecta AG celebrated its 20th anniversary, obtained international IRIS certification, and relocated its headquarters to Sulgen (Thurgau). The new location provided modern conditions for future-oriented development.
The management restructuring in 2017 and the introduction of the digital document management system AMAGNO marked the beginning of a new chapter in the company’s history. With the goal of becoming a largely paperless organization, Confecta set clear signals toward digitalization, efficiency, and sustainable corporate management.
Today, Confecta stands for innovation, precision, and reliability. The company’s history impressively demonstrates how consistent forward thinking, entrepreneurial courage, and close customer relationships have shaped a strong, future-ready brand over decades.
