Twisted cables ensure a reduced susceptibility to interference. Wire pairs get twisted with different lay length and different directions of rotation in one cable in order to minimize crosstalk between the wire pairs. Twisted wire pairs offer better protection against electrical and magnetic interference fields than parallel wires. Due to the twisting of the wire pairs, influences from external fields largely cancel each other out.
